jute_bangladesh3-934Why Jute? It’s the most sustainable material in the world!

Juteborg AB is convinced that jute – a natural fiber growing in Bangladesh and around the equator – is the most sustainable material in the world. Because of the challenges we are facing, we need to exchange materials that are bad for the world into sustainable materials.

social_bangladesh3-1017Socially – Almost 1/3 of the population of 160 million people in Bangladesh are depending on the the jute industry – one way or the other. If we lift jute into high-tech industry and refine it more locally it has a great potential of lift around 50 million people.

Economically – Jute is the second largest volume of natural fibers in the world, after cotton. It is cheap, light, strong, antibacterial etc. For instant 30% lighter than glassfiber. A particle board of jute instead of wood is aprox 25 % lighter. This will show benfits in transportation cost, in working conditions, in energysaving e.g. Trees are mature in 60-80 years, bamboo in 3-10 years, jute in 120 days.

Bangladesh3-1062-JuteEcologically – Jute absorbs more than 20 times CO2 equivalent than other natural fibers. It is cultivated in crop rotation with rice and other foods. This means that in Bangladesh they have three crops/year. One crop of jute and two crops of rice. The jute crop is fertilizing the soil and protects it so the farmers don´t have to use fertilizers or pesticides in growing. Even if the farmers wouldn´t need the jute as a material they would grow it anyway. This means that jute doesn´t take away land area from food production.

Example of innovations in just the composite field:

Juteborg AB believes that 50% Jute inclusion makes the world 50% better !

JutePP – plastic granules; Jute granule is a composite of Jute fiber, made with reused polypropylene by a special formula. This is used as a raw material in injection moulding and hard compression of products which are traditionally produced entirely by plastics. In cooperation with University of Borås and Swerea in JuteLight research project. This material can be used in automotive/transportation, construction/interior and in packaging industries. For instance it could be used in variety of consumer as well industrial products like tooth brush, pallets etc.

JuteBoard – high performance lightweight, thin board; A special designed fabric of jute and polyprolylene is heated and processed. In cooperation with University of Borås and Swerea in JuteLight research project. This material can be used in automotive/transportation and construction industries.

JuteFlex – a very thin light composite, flexible board. It doesn´t break – it bends. Special designed nonwowen jute and polyproplylene. In cooperation with University of Borås and Swerea in JuteLight research project. This material can be used in automotive/transportation, construction/interior and in packaging industries.

C-Jute (kju:t) – cotton/jute blend – Upstarted research project with University of Borås, working for spinning jute & cotton blend together.  We have reached peak cotton in the world and this fabric intends to gain the good technical characteristics of cotton and the sustainability of jute.

Demo/lab Jute-eCon Juteborg AB is a close partner to eCon by Archidea/Qideas AB. eCon has financial support from Swedish authority of Housing (Boverket) to build four small, transportable, affordable and sustainable housing units on the rooftop of the parkingbuilding of the shoppingmall Nordstan. The eCon´s will showcase jutematerial and the synergies. It will be ready in August 2017. Read more..
